Another One Down, Three To Go

CQ09ZlHUAAApwVWThe march to Outland Loremaster continues after finishing up Blade’s Edge.  In case you, too, are having trouble with Blade’s Edge Loremaster: wait until 70 (if you’re not) and then come back and do Ogri’la and Shatari Skyguard stuff.  That should get you there.

This means I have three zones left: Nagrand, Netherstorm, and Shadowmoon Valley.  Nagrand is by far the most difficult zone for Loremaster so far.  With most of the other zones I’ve done, you’d finish up all the quest hubs and have maybe four or five hidden quests to track down.  With Nagrand I have, like, 16 hidden quests to track down.

So yeah.

Never fear: I’ll figure it out and then pass all the juicy details along, to anyone out there who’s interested!

The Dominance Offensive Questline Is One of The Best In WoW

I’ve mentioned it before, but for those who missed it, I really didn’t play much of MoP.  I played up until 6.1 and then quit, and didn’t come back until WoD.

In retrospect I maybe should have stuck around for 6.1 because dang. I don’t know how this is for Alliance but for Horde at least this is some good questing.

I’ve been working my way through this questline and its accompanying dailies for the past few weeks as part of my neverending quest for mounts, reputation, achievements and so on.  I don’t want to post too many spoilers lest anyone decide to do it for themselves, but let’s just say that it starts with a bang and has you working your way up through an increasingly perilous situation.  Many of the Horde racial leaders are involved in one way or another, and Blizzard does a fantastic job of making you feel like they really need you to help them keep the Horde together.

It’s been a long time since I was genuinely eager to advance in an in-game storyline for reasons other than, you know, experience or loot, but this is just amazing.  If you haven’t done it, you should go do it.  The main quests are gated behind dailies but those dailies take like ten minutes a day as a level 100.

I know the whole Garrosh thing caused some controversy, but like it or not, it did certainly give us Horde-folk a really neato storyline! 10/10 A++++ would recommend again!

Varian Wrynn is the 1%

So I was running a panda through Westfall the other day– haven’t done it since the Cataclysm redo– and was very amused to do a quest which involved finding pages from the Communist manifesto and also bits of cloth that are colored solidarity red.  Honestly I’m surprised the drifters from Westfall aren’t busy occupying Stormwind.

The Red Army is the strongest

Honestly I was feeling bad because I just had to interrogate all the homeless people for a quest and all I wanted to do was help them out and be on their side.  It made me wish that they were a faction and that I could hang out and help them rebuild Westfall and we’d do all sorts of neat things like own our own means of production.  But alas, it is not to be.

Oh well.  I put everything on the auction house for dirt cheap, and that sort of counts, right?

Rediscovering Your Roots – And Your New Pet

Rediscovering Your Roots, for those of you who do not do not spend a lot of time on the Isle of Quel’danas, is a Sunwell daily quest wherein you get to travel to Razorthorn Rise (on the border of Terokkar and Hellfire) and temporarily “tame” a ravager to dig up roots for you. This quest is available to any class, but what’s really interesting is that if you are a hunter, not only will you take to this quest like a fish to water, but you can put some of your hunter-skills to really good use.

I did some testing, and here’s what you can do with your temporary pet:

– Any sort of pet attack macro (My pet attack/Hunter’s Mark macro, for example)
– Intimidation
– Bestial Wrath (Big Red Ravagers really are Big Red Ravagers.)
– Mend Pet
– Use Sporeling Snacks and Kibler’s Bits
– Teach him Growl. However, it does not show up because he already knows four moves and you can’t change his moves.
– Misdirect onto him
– Bandage him
– Run around with him while mounted, just like in the old days

And here’s what you can not do:

– Kill Command (kind of random, I think, because so many other pet-based abilities work.)
– Feed your ravager
– “Passive” pet abilities (Ferocity, Frenzy, Ferocious Inspiration)
– Keep him. =( If you go too far outside the area he automatically leaves you and runs back. Also, as of a recent hotfix, these guys cannot be tamed (at least not through the conventional method).

Similarly, you cannot open your spellbook to see his abilities or right click on him to see his attributes.

I’m curious to see how things that I do not have would effect him (Leggings of Beast Mastery, Devilsaur Tooth, etc.) unfortunately I don’t have a lot of fun things like that to play around with.

Have any of you made some interesting discoveries on what you can/can’t do with your temporary pet? Lemme know and I’ll edit ’em into the list!

(Oh, and one final note while we are on the subject of dailies: do not underestimate the power of using the dailies to level a pet who is in their 60s. The other day just doing all the Sunwell quests both on and off the island got Eltanin from roughly 95% into level 63, to 65% into level 64. He is also now Loyalty Level 6. It is indeed a little challenging not having a higher-level pet for the harder quests… but who better to take on a challenge than a hunter! It’s quite fun, actually.)
