Still Doing the LF Guild Dance

Been feeling a bit lonely lately now that it’s been almost a month since I’ve been in a guild with my main character. I’m not entirely sure what I want to do about it though. All I ever see recruiting are either diehard raiding guilds, or “We are a new guild who will help you level and we have a tabard, PST!” I’m sorta looking for something inbetween, if that makes sense.

Ironically, the guild that I ran Naxx with for a few months is now recruiting ranged DPS for Naxx25 and Ulduar10, which is, guess what, exactly where most of my gear upgrades are! A few of the higher-ranking people in said guild are also aware that I am guildless, though I have yet to receive any sort of guild invite (although I think they are probably trying to be polite). They’re good people, too, and they seem to like me a lot.

So why haven’t I joined that guild yet? Because last I checked, their Naxx25/Ulduar10 runs happen when I am at work nine times out of ten. So, I’m kinda torn. Should I join that guild and just see what happens, or should I keep guild-shopping and hope for something with a better-fitting schedule?

And what is the best way to go guild-shopping anyway, aside from sitting around in GuildRecruitment and trying to make a good impression in PuGs?

/ponder…

(P.S. While I am still somewhat reluctant to do a server transfer, yes, I am still willing to take a serious look at all guild offers I get through this blog, cause ya never know! Must be Alliance, must be on an RP or RP-PvP server, and must be okay with the fact that I do not have any semblance of a set schedule and thus can not guarantee I can make raids on a regular basis. >.>)

  1. I haven’t looked for a guild for years – too busy running the one I’m in… 😉

We’re a social guild with a raiding group within it and we get most of our applicants from our recruitment post on our realm forum. I don’t know what your realm forum is like, but on ours there are a lot of raiding guilds looking for 1 x Class X, spec Y – but then there are also a few guilds like ours that are looking for nice people that know what they are doing and will fit into the guild as well as the raid group. Might be worth a look?

Shame you’re in the US or I’d try to tempt you to join us. 🙂

  2. What I did to go guild-hunting was visit the ranking sites, like WoW Jutsu. I went to my realm and scanned all the guilds on my side of the faction fence, looking for the one that seemed to be where I wanted to be in raiding. Then I blitzed Google, looking for their guild website, and read through all the stuff there regarding recruitment.

And really, if a raiding guild doesn’t have an accessible website, it’s probably not worth your time anyway. 🙂

  3. Check out your realm forums? Raiding guilds often post recruitment threads there, or at least they did on my server’s forum.

  4. Same as Tchann, i checked guildprogress.com ranking for my server and starting with guilds from top, googled their names and read their websites. After week or so i ended in 17th-rated guild with pretty laid-back (IMO) schedule.

  5. Pike, you need to find a nice softcore guild like the one I’m in (Dark Aftermath of Kilrogg). I found them specifically by looking through the official realm forums, and so far things have been great. Although we raid progression 25s Friday and Saturday (with Sunday as the only official off day), we usually manage to scrape together folks for off night stuff, whether it be Uld 10, Naxx 10, or a fine night of beating down BC raids (although we’ve got some immature language, look up Dark Aftermath – DP on YouTube 🙂 )

If it weren’t for the fact that we’re a non-RP PvE server, I’d say come give us a look (even if we are heavy on hunters – i.e. have pulled off Uld10 runs with 4 hunters and 1 melee)

  6. Hey Pike, you should check out House Stalwart/Duranub Raiding Company our raiding branch heh. Reading my blog pretty much would tell you anything you need to know about our raid.

  7. Pike,

Heroes Inc on Altar of Storms is a guild doing 10 man Ulduar and Naxx runs. They are a former guild of mine made up mostly of working adults. The reason I think they might be a good fit is their raid schedule changes week to week. Since many of them have variable schedules, the Raid Leader asks everyone to post their availability and then creates a schedule based on when the most people can make it.

You can check out their website here: http://z4.invisionfree.com/heroesinc/index.php?act=idx

Feel free to drop me an email if you have any questions. Best of luck to you.

  8. If only you were on Doomhammer. Con Brio is a hybrid casual/raiding guild (as in they have a core raiding team doing progression, and they also have people like me who are just completely casual and there for the socializing). I’m not a recruiter, but they’re such fun people I almost feel bad I’m not playing more.

  9. IMO, you need to be fairly active when trying to find a guild. A lot of guilds won’t advertise too much, especially if they have a big pool of casual raiders that don’t raid every week. I’d look at which guilds are online when you play (particularly those you enjoy PuGging with) and see if they have a website etc that you can post an application to 🙂

  10. You are always welcome to join us at our resident insanity… but we don’t raid 25s, only 10s, and even that takes a back seat to the social scene.

So I guess what I’m saying is, I hope you find what you’re looking for, a guild with a schedule to keep you doing the fun stuff, but I hope you know you’ll always have a spiritual home with the Devils.

  11. Have you considered taking guild and raid group seperately? It seems to work pretty well on my server. There’s a ton of small guilds who do ten mans by themselves, and a lot of 25 raid groups/pools. One guild just set up a “raid pool channel” that everyone joines. Out of that pool raids can be built, doing up to Ulduar25.

Just seems to be a very well working thing to deal with guild and raid each on their own.

  12. 🙁 My guild would be a pretty good fit for you aside from a few things. 1) Horde 2) Not on an RP server. Other than those things it would be good, but I guess it’s not meant to be.

As far as the other guild goes I would suggest talking to them and seeing if they are interested in you joining and let them know your concerns. I know it can be hard to find a guild that meets your schedule, as we have trouble finding members that can make our schedule since half of us are on the west coast and it’s an east coast server.

  13. Good luck with this Pike. I’ve been a hold out in the same guild for far, far, too long. One of those “better the devil you know vs. the one you don’t kind of thing.”

Hope you find a good home and minimal drama-monsters.

  14. They may be waiting for you to apply. Look on your realm forums and see if they have a post there telling you how to apply. At the same time, if you want to join them but are not entirely sure you would always be able to make the raids, see if they have a friend rank within there guild structure. That way you could be in the guild and not be punished by there schedule, but still be invited on the nites they raid and you are on. Though it’s not an exact thing. Just a tip though, but good luck! 😀

  15. Pike,

I would like to offer two guilds for you to think about on the Sentinels Server.

First, is . This is the one I belong to. It is a smaller guild, good friends (some in RL, some only in digi-land). We’re kinda crazy, and absolutely weird (in that good sort of way)!

Second is . This is a softcore raiding guild, doing Naxx/Ulduar 10, as well as some Naxx 25. They are sweet people, and they know what they are doing. The leadership comes from a Hardcore raiding guild, and decidedly went softcore.

Now, why do I recommend both? Because, my guild and PhR have a very complimentary relationship. Basically, if PhR does a 25 man, it is because IG is running with them. We often run 10 mans together as well, many of our members subbing out for each other. We find ourselves doing Heroics often together, using a common channel to put groups together. Both guilds have nice people. The only difference is that PhR is more raiding oriented, while IG is more social oriented. Both are “come as you are” and don’t care a sqaut about your gear. We are all just here to have fun and help each other out.

  16. Hey Pike!
You’re welcome to apply to Questionable Intent on Argent Dawn(RP). QI is a really fun & easygoing group. Our goal is progressing through Ulduar 25 at the moment but we aren’t hardcore by any means, and members don’t have to raid at all if they don’t want to, so you can take things at your own pace.
Our website is http://www.qiguild.com. If you want to drop by & say high just post in our public forums 🙂 or make an alt on Argent Dawn and chat with one of the officers. As a fellow BM hunter I’ll vouch for ya ;), and so does my pet devilsaur, Igor.
    Hope to hear from you!
