Merry Christmas From BabyPike

Long, long ago, in a galaxy far away, there was a BabyPike.

BabyPike had a computer.

BabyPike was playing on this thing before she could talk. If you opened up her “Baby Book” you could find a spot for “Baby’s Favorite Games”, and instead of “Patty-Cake” or “Peek-a-Boo”, it said things like “Dig-Dug, Donkey Kong, and Pac-Man”.

It also said “Christmas Game”. That one might not be so recognizable. See, “Christmas Game” wasn’t actually a game. I just called it that (when I finally put down the joystick long enough to start talking.) “Christmas Game” was actually a technical demo for the Commodore 64 and I loved it and would watch it over and over. I think it was because Frosty the Snowman dances at the end. (I distinctly remember that being my favorite part.)

Merry Christmas! <3 And NEVER FORGET: THE COMMODORE 64 64K MEMORY 16 COLORS HI-RES GRAPHICS SPRITE ANIMATION SOUND SYNTHESIS CP/M OPTION THE PERFECT HOLIDAY GIFT ONLY $595!

  1. Cute BabyPike is cute. I finally got a computer in the beginning of 5th grade, once my mom finally got a fancy corporate job in the suburbs. Since that very moment computers and I have been inseparable.

I’m not a computer genius by any means but I’ve always felt that you can do pretty much anything with a computer and the internet.

  2. Merry Christmas to grown-up Pike. 😉

I got into games and computers and such a bit later in life, but I do recall having fun with my original GameBoy. Yeah; the big gray brick. I only had a handful of games for it, but man, did I love that thing…

Oh, and “Awww…” at the picture. I’m sure you’re as cute now as you were then. 🙂

  3. Oh the memories! I remember that demo *laughs*. I loved my Commodore 64, although I think I was a wee bit older than you when I got one *grins*.

A VERY Happy Holidays to you Pike!

  4. I had one of those.

In fact, it was a Christmas gift in ’83 or ’84, I forget. It was like my favoritest thing ever, and I had this awesome 13″ sony trinitron that doubled as my monitor. Commodore 64 was high end home computing 25 years ago.

My favorite games were: the winter olympics, tapper, and some really cool “create your own monster and then send him in to combat other monsters” game (I think it was by EA, but I’m not sure). I also had Zork and Hitchhiker’s Gide to the Galaxy, but they were a little short on graphics. 😉

    Happy Birthday btw!

  5. Lmao! The same thing basically happened to me, I could just say basic phrases (if even). When I got my Macintosh!

Merry Christmas to you too Pike!
